Yellow Bin Recycling
- Clean Tin Cans
- Plastic containers with recycling sign 1, 2 and 5 only. (No lids) – Containers must be bigger than a small yoghurt pottle and 4 litres or less.
- Clean Aluminium Cans
- Clean paper (standard envelope size or bigger)
- Cardboard – flattened e.g. cereal boxes, egg cartons, general cardboard boxes including pizza boxes with food scraps removed
- Clean glass jars and bottles (No lids)

Green Bin (Organics)
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves and dead cut flowers
- Food scraps
Red Bin (Landfill)
- Containers over 4 litres including large water and oil bottles
- ALL lids
- Liquid tetra cartons such as milk and juice cartons
- Fabric bags, old clothing and shoes. To stop so much going to landfill you could consider other ways to reuse or recycle first – e.g. Give to second handclothes shops, garage sale, repair items, give to others in need (Check out our recycling schemes in Christchurch section for more ideas)
- Soft plastics such as plastic bags, plastic bread, pasta, and rice bags, frozen food bags. chip packets, bubble wrap, courier bags.Try to recycle through the Soft Plastic Recycling scheme instead (See Recycling schemes in Christchurch for locations)

- Cardboard and paper with food on it including newspaper, paper towels, shredded paper and fish and chip wrappers
