TOCK Crafts – Bee Finger Puppet

Bees are an important part of our world, they help to pollinate lots of the plants that create the food that we eat. A pollinator is an animal that helps plants to make fruit or seeds. They do this by moving pollen from one plant to another. Bees and other pollinating insects help everything from juicy fruits like apples, pears, blueberries and tomatoes, vegetables like zucchinis, cauliflowers, cucumbers to nuts like cashews and almonds to grow.

Some scientists believe that one of every three bites of food we eat depends on them.

You can help these brilliant little creatures by growing plants in your garden that the bees just love :-

Rosemary
Lavender
Sage
Thyme
Basil
Cabbage trees
Manuka….

Have a go at making a cute bee finger puppet to help tell the story of these very busy insects.

What you will need:

Card scraps, old cardboard box
Scissors
Glue
Double sided tape
Marker pens/pencil
Paints or coloured card (yellow, white and black)
Paintbrush

Gather all the things together.

If using plain cardboard paint the bee parts – body and head – yellow, white for wings and black for antennae. Leave to dry.
Draw two small circles on the body of honey bee (big enough to fit your fingers) and ask an adult to cut these out using a paper knife or shape cutter.
Draw or paint black strips on the bees body and leave to dry.
Glue on the eyes on the bees head and draw a smiley mouth with a marker pen.
Attach the parts of the bee together using glue or double sided tape.
