TOCK Crafts – Decorated Glass

Make A Decorated Glass Bottle or Jar

Add a touch of colour to give old glass jars and bottles a new life. Turn them into vases, candle holders or keepsake jars.

You Will Need:

This is a messy craft so needs an adult to help
Empty clean glass bottle or jar
Whiteboard pen
Food colouring
Acrylic paint
Paint brush
Clear drying craft glue
Container to mix colours (use old yoghurt pots etc.)
Gloves to protect hands (optional)

Instructions:

Take a clean bottle/jar and draw a nice design using a whiteboard pen.
Mix glue and acrylic paint to go around the outline. (Mainly glue with just enough paint to obtain the desired colour).
Carefully paint over the marked outline. Leave to dry.
Mix some glue with a very small amount of food colouring.
Paint this on the bottle/jar. Best to paint only one colour at a time and leave to dry. Be careful not to get the food colouring on your hands, clothes etc.
You can use multiple colours using food colouring for tinted colours or acrylic paint mix for solid colours.
Enjoy your creation – use as a vase, keepsake jar, candle holder …

REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR BOTTLE/JAR DRY AS THE FOOD COLOURING WILL STAIN IF IT GETS WET!

Other ideas for decorating your bottle/jar

You can create a marble effect by mixing paint, glue and water together and dripping this over an inverted bottle one colour at a time (Remember to have a tray/container underneath to catch the drips). You can rotate the bottle or jar whilst the paint is running to get some interesting designs. Do this again with multiple colours.
